What on Earth is "The BANGERS Method"?

What on Earth is "The BANGERS Method"? Basically, it’s a way of identifying the best record in a band's discography. One day, I was listening to an album and sent a message to my friends stating that “this album is definitely underrated, I reckon it’s their third best album”. As I thought about this some more, I thought about how I could possibly work this out (turned out I was wrong, by the way!) With a bit of trial and error, I came up with the below… The BANGERS Method . 1.  This process is designed to rank albums based on how many classic tracks from the bands catalogue they contain, in order to definitively rank the albums in best to worst order. 2.  In my opinion, an album should be judged on how many great songs it contains. An album full of average songs is never going to be a band’s best album! 3.  To begin grading, you need to be familiar with both the album in question and the band’s catalogue. I don’t think you can accurately r...

FAR - An In-Depth Look

FAR - An In-Depth Look First of all, apologies for the delay between posts, it's been a hectic few weeks! This entry we're going to be talking about the seminal post-hardcore band, Sacramento's FAR. Hugely influential on the early 2000's music scene, and friends and peers of bands such as Deftones, Will Haven, Incubus and 7 Seconds, the band never quite reached the stratospheric heights they could have, but they left behind a legacy of incredible work. Since their break up, Jonah Matranga (vocals / guitar) has toured relentlessly all over the world, and has had success in both bands and solo projects such as Onelinedrawing, New End Original and Gratitude and has worked with Rival Schools, Frank Turner, Mike Shinoda and others, whilst Shaun Lopez started The Revolution Smile and is part of CROSSES with Chino Moreno as well as a succesful producer, but here we're looking purely at the work as FAR. As usual, we're going to start in reve...

Foo Fighters - An In-Depth Look

FOO FIGHTERS - An In-Depth Look An absolute titan of modern rock music, arguably one of the biggest arena bands in the world and in Dave Grohl, a hugely beloved front man, but as a band, how consistent are they? Do they put out great, timeless albums, or are they a singles band? Are they still an interesting band, or are they coasting merely on brand recognition these days? Let's take a look at their full discography and see how they stack up... As usual, we're going to start in reverse order, with the least essential album release first, all the way through to their masterpiece, with scoring as per the BANGERS method, which is outlined  right here.  As usual, the notable tracks are listed with each release, with the BANGERS in bold. I haven't included the compilation Rare Meat  as it is difficult to get hold of, and not particularly essential to the Foo Fighters  canon, consisting mainly of old covers. If you think it should be in though, let me kno...
